RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 5, 2007 -- Dave Connolly continued his hot streak Friday night, claiming the provisional No. 1 Pro Stock starting position for Sunday's Torco Racing Fuels Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park at Dinwiddie.
Limited to just one attempt by an afternoon rain storm, Connolly definitely made the most of it, running 6.649 seconds at 307.24 mph in Evan Knoll's Torco Racing Fuels Chevy Cobalt for Victor Cagnazzi Racing.
"We tested earlier this week at Maryland International Raceway and I got some good vibes that we would have a good weekend," said the native of Elyria, Ohio. "We made good runs testing and made some progress, and it showed. We hit the ground running. I hope I can hang onto it Saturday."
Jeg Coughlin, Connolly's Cagnazzi Racing teammate, was second with a time of 6.661 at 207.27 mph.
They get two more qualifying runs on Saturday. Connolly, the POWERade Series point leader, takes a four-race win streak into Sunday's eliminations.
