Capps and Skoal Racing Green Team Prep For 2004 NHRA Season-Opener at F.I.R.
CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 7, 2004) -- Ron Capps and his Skoal Racing green Funny Car team resumed its preparation for the upcoming NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series season Saturday at Firebird International Raceway near Phoenix at the National Time Trials
Capps, who won his only race of the 2003 season at Firebird Raceway last February, made two runs behind the wheel of his Skoal green flopper on Saturday, clocking 60-foot times of .893-seconds and .886-seconds.
"Everything is going as planned, but the track is still a little green," Capps said. "You can tell by a lot of the teams not being able to get down the track. The guys made an adjustment after the first squirt. John (Stewart) and Todd (Okuhara) had me shut it off at half-track on the second run. It had good numbers up to then and made it through a spot on the track that many teams were having trouble with. So, we're real happy. This track should be really good when we come back here in March, but right now it's real green."
Capps, who will debut the new Chevy Monte Carlo body at the season-opening K&N Filters Winternationals in Pomona, Calif., will resume his preseason testing at Firebird Raceway on Sunday.
