BROWN DRIVES MATCO RAIL TO NO. 3 SPOT FRIDAY AT SEATTLE
KENT, Wash. (July 18, 2008) -- Antron Brown continued his solid performance in his David Powers-owned Matco Tools dragster Friday at Pacific Raceways. Competing at the Seattle NHRA race for the first time in his career, Brown powered his Matco-backed rail to the provisional No. 3 qualifying position with an elapsed time of 3.831-seconds.
Brown, who made the first three-second pass in NHRA history last Friday evening at the Denver NHRA race, opened qualifying at the sea level Seattle track with a solid run of 3.865 seconds at 310.27 mph in the bright blue Matco Tools dragster. That placed Brown fourth in the 16-car order. It was his first 1,000-foot pass that exceeded 300 mph. Using a tune-up from crew chief Lee Beard, Brown bettered his opening effort by cruising the Pacific Raceways strip in 3.831 at 312.06 to place the Matco Tools car in the provisional No. 3 qualifying position. Brown, who ranks second in the Top Fuel standings, has never competed at Pacific Raceways as the Pro Stock Motorcycle class competes on a limited schedule.
"Our goal was to continue to do well after our runner-up at Denver and we did that today," Brown said. "We made two really good runs and put this Matco car in the No. 3 spot. Our teammate, Hot Rod (Fuller), put a good number on the board and these two David Powers cars continue to do well."
