Zetec Championship To Be Decided at Road America Season-Finale Doubleheader

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. (August 18, 2004) - The Formula Ford Zetec Championship, part of the Cooper Tires Championship Series, travels to Road America, August 20-22, 2004, for Rounds Fifteen and Sixteen. As part of the Road America 500, the season-finale doubleheader will determine the 2004 Formula Ford Zetec Champion.

Widely regarded as North America's open-wheel training series, the 2004 edition of the Zetec Championship will likely come down to the final race of the season. Entering the final two races of the season, Andersen Walko Racing's Andrew Prendeville holds a small 10-point advantage over Cape Motorsports' Bobby Wilson. Both three-time winners, the duo have swapped the championship standings lead several times during the season. Racing on the fast 4.0-mile road course, Prendeville, of Monroeville, Pa., will be looking to improve on his fifth place finish at the track in 2003, while Wilson, of Dousman, Wis., will be hoping to capture the championship on his home track.

Joining the duo as title contenders in Wisconsin, are Adam Pecorari and Jason Bowles. With 63 points up for grabs in the doubleheader, both drivers still have a mathematical chance at the championship title. Driving for Andersen Walko Racing, Pecorari, of Aston, Pa., is the hottest driver in the championship, having swept both rounds at the most recent event at Mid-Ohio, while Greg Moore Rookie of the Year standings leader Bowles, of Ontario, Calif., has captured eight podium finishes in his JDC Motorsports car.

The on-track action gets underway, Thursday, August 19, 2004, with pre-event testing prior to practice and qualifying on Friday, August 20, 2004. The first 12-lap race of the championship deciding doubleheader is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. local time, Saturday, August 21, 2004. The final race of the season will commence following the American Le Mans Series Road America 500, with scheduled green flag of 4:15 p.m. local time, Sunday, August 22, 2004. Following the race the Cooper Tires Championship Series will host its annual year-end banquet at The Osthoff Resort.
