SEBRING, Fla. (March 15) In qualifying at Sebring International Raceway for round one of the 2007 BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda, Beau Debard nipped Timmy Megenbier by .163 of a second to take pole. Halfway through the 25-minute session, Debard put up a 2:25.928 -- he was the only one of the 25 drivers in the 25s on Sebring's 3.7-mile circuit .while Megenbier turned a 2:26.091 on his last lap. Joel Miller's 2:26.167 was good for third on the grid, alongside Ricky Taylor (2:26.586), son of sports car star Wayne.
Debard, 19, is the most recent Skip Barber Karting Scholarship Shoot-out winner, while 15-year-old Megenbier also won sponsorship at this past January's Shoot-out. Miller, 18, is the this year's Snap on Stars of Karting/Skip Barber Scholarship driver, and Taylor, 17, won sponsorship in the Karting Shoot- out in 2006.
In the National's Masters Division, Jeff Kaiser was quickest, followed by Dom Bastien, Dick Lippert and Stephen Kalogridis.
Round two of the 14-race championship is tomorrow (Friday) afternoon, following a morning qualifying session.
