DANVILLE, VA. APRIL 28. Qualifying takes place this morning for the second round of the North American Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge, held at the 3.27 mile Virginia International Raceway. Practice times over the past two days have seen Ed Davies (512 M) set the fastest time, almost one second faster than the quickest 360 Challenge car. Davies will be joined by another 512M and a 512 S, as well as six 512 BB/LMs, three 250 GTOs (one a unique LMB-bodied car), a 250 P, 308 Michelotto, 250 SWB, and a pair of ex-NART competition Daytonas in the Disc Brake group.
Nine cars are entered with drum brakes for their separate race: Peter Sachs' 335 Sport has been consistently quick, but a pair of Maseratis (a 450S and 300S), a 250 TR, Alfa Romeo 8C/35, a 375 MM Pf spyder, and an unusual 166 F2 will complete the grid.
Each group (Disc and Drum) will race once on Saturday, and again on Sunday.
