SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- For the second consecutive year, the Valvoline Cup, the country's only true national point championship, has joined the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) to sponsor four A-Main events to help highlight the 20th anniversary tour.

These events include the opening night at the Black Rock Speedway on Sat. April, 12th. The Empire Super Sprints/United Racing Club Challenge race at the Grandview Speedway on Sun. May 4th, the Sat. night May 24th event at the Stateline Speedway and June 6th race at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway. With the help from the Valvoline Cup, the 25 lap A-Mains at Black Rock, Stateline and Albany-Saratoga will pay a minimum of $1625 cash to win. At Grandview, the highest finishing ESS driver will receive a bonus.

All ESS teams will also enter the Valvoline Cup national point's championship in hopes of taking the title in the open wheel sprint car category. At each Valvoline Cup sponsored A-Main event, promotions and handouts from Valvoline will be distributed to both drivers and fans.

The Valvoline Cup will be operated as a national season points championship that is open to virtually all drivers in all types and classes of wheel to wheel (unless specifically noted) competition in all sanctioned racing or track sponsored, regularly scheduled racing programs throughout the 50 United States and the District of Columbia during 2003. Drivers will receive Valvoline Cup program points for finishing positions in events between January 1, 2003 and October 31, 2003.

Every driver will be awarded points for finishing positions in their own racing series. In this way, an ASA driver can compete with a Winston West driver, and a NAMARS driver can compete against a USAC driver all on equal footing and all for the same trophies, merchandise awards and cash prizes.

The Valvoline Cup is only the latest evidence of Valvoline's support of grassroots racers. Valvoline is a contingency sponsor in NHRA drag racing and for the past seven years has been the No. 1 choice of motor oil by NHRA sportsmen-class racers at NHRA pro events. For the past 18 years, Valvoline has sponsored the national championships for the Sports Car Club of America, The SCCA Valvoline Runoffs®.Drivers and others interested in the Valvoline Cup can call 1-877-302-0290, e-mail headquarters@valvolinecup.com or visit www.valvolinecup.com for more information and to register.

It's 20 years of celebrating the wild and wooly world of American's Race Cars, ESS is throwing a party and we hope you can be a big part of the fun and excitement. April 12th is the date, the Black Rock Speedway just north of Watkins Glen is the site. The first green flag will be dropped and it will be excitement guaranteed!!!
