Clinton Township, Mich. - The Cinjo Racing/Motorcity True Performance/Viper team is ready to take on the newly repaved Mosport International Raceway on May 20 for round three of the Trans-Am Series for the BF Goodrich Cup. Mosport will also mark the first race of the season that the teams must perform a mandatory pit stop.
The team has not rested since Long Beach. Continuing with a comprehensive development program, the Cinjo Viper has made significant improvements with each race. "We have been doing a great deal of work on the car, both in the shop and on the track. We are hopful that our performance at Mosport will be as significant an improvement over Long Beach as Long Beach was over Sebring," said Joe Tranchida, owner, Cinjo Racing.
Tommy Archer, driver of the number 36 Viper, is no stranger to the 2.4-mile rolling hills circuit. "I like Mosport. I think I have won six races there before, with a second place in Trans-Am in '92. I think it's a driver's track. With the repaving it should be that much better for our Viper. The pit stops will be a new wrinkle. I have done a lot of pit stops over the past few years in ALMS and it should provide a better show for the fans. Strategy will be key, especially for this first race with pit stops."
"We have put in a lot of work since Long Beach. The car has improved every time we have had it on the track," said Steven Veeder, general manager, Cinjo Racing. "The pit stops should be no problem for us as Tommy has a lot of experience. It will be up to the crew to do the job efficiently and not to lose too much time."
The race will be televised live on Speedvision beginning at 1:00 p.m. EST on May 20. <pre> Trans-Am Driver Points: 1. Lou Gigliotti Corvette 53 2. Johnny Miller Jaguar 53 3.
