San Jose: First practice notes

BORIS SAID LEADS FIRST-ROUND TRANS-AM PRACTICE AT SAN JOSE

SAN JOSE, Calif. (July 29, 2005) -- Boris Said marked his return to Trans-Am competition by setting the fastest time in first-round practice Friday for tomorrow's Cytomax Sport Drink 100 at the Grand Prix of San Jose. Said, from Carlsbad, Calif., turned the 1.448-mile temporary street course in one minute, 8.186 seconds (76.450 miles per hour), driving the No. 33 ACS Express Ford Mustang. The 2002 Trans-Am Drivers' Champion returned to Trans-Am competition here, after a four-race hiatus.

Paul Gentilozzi was second fastest in the No. 1 Jaguar R Performance XKR, ahead of GT-1 competitor Paul Fix (No. 77 Stop Flex/Jongbloed Wheels/Drive Magazine Ford Mustang). Points leader Randy Ruhlman (No. 49 Preformed Line Products Chevrolet Corvette) and Greg Pickett (No. 6 Cytomax Jaguar XKR) completed the top five.

Qualifying is scheduled for 3:35 p.m. today. The Cytomax Sport Drink 100, Round 6 of the 2005 Trans-Am Championship, is scheduled for tomorrow at 4 p.m. PDT. Saturday's race will air on a tape-delayed basis, Sunday, Aug. 7 at 1 p.m. EDT on SPEED Channel.
