WISE WINS "WESTERN WORLD" & NATIONAL TITLE
Josh Wise of Riverside, Calif. completed his drive to the 2006 USAC National Sprint Car Championship by winning Saturday night's 40-lap feature at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz. Wise's victory in the 39th Checker Auto Parts/Budweiser Western World Championships was his second in two nights. He also won Friday's 25-lap prelim in the Tony Stewart Racing Mopar/Bass Pro Shops Maxim/Mopar. His team also won the USAC National Sprint Car Owner's title.
Wise led all 40 laps of Saturday's finale, beating Daron Clayton, Bud Kaeding, Jerry Coons Jr. and Levi Jones. On Friday, Wise led the final 20 laps to beat Darren Hagen, Jesse Hockett, Jones and Kaeding. Kaeding won Thursday's 25-lap prelim in his Loan City/Team ASE Maxim/Shaver, leading the last 21 laps to beat Jones, Coons, Dave Darland and Clayton. Darland led the first four laps of Thursday's race while Hagen led the first five laps on Friday.
Defending USAC National Sprint Car Champion Jones concluded the 2006 season 88 points in arrears of his teammate, Wise.
