WM: Santa Maria preview
FAAS WANTS TO BE ...
FAAS WANTS TO BE #9 SATURDAY AT SANTA MARIA!
Nic Faas is #1 right now and hopes to be #9 Saturday night at Santa Maria (Calif.) Speedway. The USAC Western Midget point leader has his sights set on becoming the ninth different driver to win at the 1/3-mile dirt oval in the last nine USAC Midget events at the track!
Faas holds a 41-point lead over Robby Josett in the latest series points. Faas has a half-dozen "top-10s" this year including a runner-up finish at Ventura Raceway, while Josett's five top-10s this season include a feature win at Ventura.
Third-ranking Scott Pierovich also sees opportunity at Santa Maria Saturday. Scott was runner-up in the 2006 and 2007 series points and a victory Saturday would go a long way toward a possible title this year. Scott has three "pdium" finishes this year but still seeks his first series triumph in three years.
Garrett Hansen won last year's USAC Midget race at Santa Maria.
