Sprints, Ford Focus Midgets at El Cajon Saturday
Tony Hunt of Fair Oaks, Calif. and Josh Lakatos of Pasadena, Calif. headline the entries for this Saturday's USAC racing "doubleheader" at Cajon Speedway in El Cajon, Calif.
Hunt returns to defend his USAC Western Sprint Car Championship but this year returns to the Ken Pierson machine out of Elk Grove, Calif. Tony drove for Pierson two years ago, winning three features but narrowly missing the series title. Last year, Pierson scored three feature wins with drivers Davey Hamilton and Bryan Bullard.
Lakatos leads the new USAC Ford Focus Midget Car Series standings after his victory in the inaugural event at Bakersfield, Calif. March 9.
A 20-lap Ford Focus Midget Car and 50-lap Sprint Car feature are planned on the 3/8-mile paved oval, following practice at 2 pm and preliminary races.
Hunt finished second in last year's El Cajon Sprint feature, trailing Randy Bauer to the checkered flag. Former series champion Jeff Gardner of Fresno, Calif., holds the 1-lap track Sprint Car qualifying record of 15.455 seconds, set last year.
