Bumgarner Finally Finds Winners Circle in Western Sprint Feature at Tucson
Brad Bumgarner of Chico, Calif. enhanced his point lead in this year's Western Sprint Car Series, scoring his initial feature win in Saturday night's 40-lapper at Tucson (Ariz.) Raceway Park.
Driving the Bumgarner Racing Beast/Chevy, he caught Brian McClish on the final lap, the only lap he led! McClish, who had led 28 laps of the race, finished second ahead of Robert Beck, Greg Taylor and Mike Murgoitio. Greg Anderson led the first 11 laps.
Defending series champion Michael Lewis finished second and trails Bumgarner by 42 points in the new standings going into a July 16 race at Tenino, Wash.
Former series champion Tony Hunt was unhurt when he crashed during heat race and his inability to start the Tucson feature dropped him from second to seventh in the tight series standings.
