The second four-hour qualifying session for this year's race took place yesterday evening under clear skies, with slightly cooler temperatures than the previous day. The RML MG Lola successfully completed its planned on track activity with a trouble free run throughout both segments of the session. All three drivers improved on their lap times from first qualifying, which will see the car start the 72nd running of the classic race from the 7th row of the grid.
Tommy started the first segment running on qualifying tyres and posted a time of 3.42.298. He commented "I am really happy with the way the qualifying sessions have run and it is a credit to the team to have a car that is well balanced and that has run faultlessly throughout the last two days".
Mike took to the track next and running on softer race tyres posted a time of 3.53.259. After the session he commented "We have made a lot of progress over the last two days and achieved all our aims for these qualifying sessions and have accomplished our lap times with ease".
Nathan drove the final laps of the first segment and again running on race tyres set an impressive time of 3.43.695. He commented "I am very happy with the car and we have a good set up. We have achieved good lap times without having to push too hard and I am very confident for the race".
Having achieved its qualifying objectives the team were happy to use the final segment of qualifying to prepare tyres and other components for the race.
Ray Mallock commented "The team have worked very hard to ensure we completed our pre-race programme to schedule and we are very pleased with the performance of the car. All three drivers are comfortable with the set up and we are very much looking forward to the race".
The 72nd Le Mans 24 Hours commences at 4.00pm CET on Saturday.
