A storming start from

Jorg Bergmeister took the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR from 5th in GT2 class to the lead. A Ferrari managed to pass when Jorg had a temporary problem with the car handling and when he pitted for fuel, tyres and a driver change the team was lying in 2nd place. Nic Jonsson took the place behind the wheel and after the second driver change Tracy took to the track in 6th place.

Jorg Bergmeister: "The car was a little bit loose. I had one problem with a big vibration just before Mulsanne. The car moved to the left -- it was probably pick-up. That's how I lost the place to the Ferrari. The car's OK and it's the start of a long race." Nic Jonsson: "Like Jorg said the car's a little loose but I think it's down to the heat out there -- the track's warm and that makes it slippery. I was trying to set a consistent pace and not do anything stupid. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up the pace a little in my next stint."
