WINCHESTER, IN, 4-21-01 - After wrecking on the final lap of practice, less than 1 hour away from qualifying, Frank Kimmel turned things around big-time and won the Old Milwaukee Pole Award here Saturday afternoon at Winchester Speedway Indiana for Sunday's ARCA RE/MAX 250. The defending series champion and race winner bumped Tim Steele off the pole in the final seconds of qualifying with a speed of 109.877 mph.
"We were fired up, that's for sure," said Kimmel. "There was something on the track in practice; we found it, and she slid up into the wall with the right-front. It hit hard enough to bend the frame. But what can you say, this Advance Auto Parts-Pork White Meat crew replaced everything up in the right-front, got the car back through tech, all in less than an hour. I asked my brother and crew chief Bill (Kimmel) if it was gunna work; he smiled and said 'lean on it as hard as you need to'; it'll stick. It stuck, and we're on the pole. This is great."
It was Kimmel's second consecutive Old Milwaukee Pole Award. Action for tomorrow's ARCA RE/MAX 250 at Winchester Speedway begins at noon CST Sunday with an on-track autograph session coupled with pre-race ceremonies. The ARCA RE/MAX 250 is scheduled to start at 1 PM local time.
