Wm. C. Mitchell Software Wins Pair of International Honors

Wm. C. Mitchell Software, creators of Racing by the Numbers software, was honored at the recent AutoSport Engineering trade show, held at the National Exhibition Center (NEC) in Birmingham, England.

AutoSport Engineering, in association with RaceCar Engineering Magazine, voted the WinGeo3 Suspension Geometry Premier/Data program winner of the "Best Technical Project or Innovation". This particular product, developed in NASCAR Winston Cup testing, has been successfully used by road racing teams in Europe and the US.

The program is designed for teams who record suspension travel data with an on-board acquisition system. The WinGeo3 suspension geometry program uses this data to determine chassis positions that produce these suspension readings. The program then calculates suspension parameters (camber, toe, instant center and roll center) corresponding to the actual track position.

William "Bill" Mitchell, founder of Wm. C Mitchell Software, was also recognized in the December issue of the SAE publication, Automotive Engineering. Mitchell's programs were honored among the "Top 10 Products of the Year."

Mitchell, of Mooresville, N.C., has been designing affordable software products for the racing industry for 19 years. His Racing By The Numbers programs, intended for high-level professional teams right down to the racing newcomer, have been successfully used by Formula One, CART, IRL, NASCAR Winston Cup and SCCA Pro racing teams, as well as in Formula Atlantic, short track, SCCA club racing and autocrossing, and by Formula SAE participants.

Mitchell received his Bachelor of Science degree from the California Institute of Technology, (Cal Tech) in Mathematics and a Masters from Stanford University. He is also a well-known auto racing journalist, having contributed to many publications. In addition, he has worked with professional race teams, from CART to Trans-Am, including the Roush Racing SCCA Trans-Am Series team, with driver Tom Kendall. He recently worked with the DSTP Formula Atlantic team during Buddy Rice's 2000 championship-winning season.
