Gwynn nets top 6 on International debut

Less than Eighteen months after making his co-driving debut young Machynlleth based George Gwynn impressed on his first ever international event, when he guided Telford teenager Nick Kenny to a fine sixth overall on the recent Pirelli International Rally.

George, who works as a rally car technician for Geoff Jones Motorsport, enjoyed the experience immensely as the pair had a trouble free run throughout the weekend, gradually improving throughout the event.

With neither Nick nor George having much experience of rallying in the dark they took Friday nights stages easy, ending the opening leg in fourteenth position. But a string of top 10 times on Day 2 saw the pair, un-daunted by the infamous 'killer' Kielder ditches, climb the leader board to finish fifth in class and sixth overall.

What a weekend. This was my first time writing pacenotes properly and Geoff Jones helped me out a huge amount this weekend. I can see a few places where improvements can be made but on the whole I am over the moon with how our event went and this result is far more than I expected!

George will be busy preparing rally cars for the next few weeks before contesting the Jim Clark International Rally with Nick in May. George co-drove Mark Gamble to a fine podium finish on the 2006 event and will be hoping his experience of the event helps the pair continue their learning curve.
