Clean run nets top 6 for Kenny
Telford teenager Nick Kenny enjoyed a trouble free weekend of rallying on the recent Pirelli International Rally, bringing his Safe Financials Limited supported Subaru Impreza home sixth overall.
Nick, who is contesting the whole Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship this year and is co-driven by George Gwynn, had minimal prior experience of the infamous 'killer Kielder' forest complex after his 2006 event ended after just one stage.
A cautious start on Friday night saw the pair end leg 1 lying fourteenth overall but as Nick has done virtually no night rallying he was confident that there was more to come from both himself and his Geoff Jones Motorsport run machine on leg two.
Indeed a string of top 10 times throughout the day showed how the youngster has developed and although he admits that he needs to work more on his notes young Nick was very pleased with his weekend.
Sixth overall and fifth in class is way more than I expected after Friday night. This is the first time that George and I have made pace notes together and we worked well as a team, but now I just need to commit a little more to my notes. The car ran really well and we had no problems at all.
Next up for the Telford Glass and Glazing supported car is the all tarmac Jim Clark Rally in May, before which Nick is hoping to spend time testing with his mentor, Welsh rally driver Geoff Jones as he prepares for a surface of which he has very little previous experience.
