Callos drops narrow decision at Atco
Highlights: JoJo Callos drove the Castrol SYNTEC Acura Integra to its quickest time of the event in a second round match with the Honda Civic of Lancelot Ho Lung, but came up just short in his bid for the Hot Rod championship in the B.F. Goodrich Sport Compact Nationals at Atco Raceway.
After qualifying fourth on a single attempt due to weather that washed out the first day of competition, Callos won his opening round match with Andrew Tran on Sunday before a track curfew forced postponement of the remaining rounds until Monday.
In the second round, Callos directed the Team Tactics-prepared Integra to a time of 8.930 seconds at 162.84 miles per hour by couldn't hold off Ho Lung's Honda Civic, which won in 8.834 seconds and went on to earn runner-up honors to No. 1 qualifier Marty Ladwig.
TEAM CASTROL Details:
JOJO CALLOS, Castrol SYNTEC Acura Integra, Hot Rod class
Qualifying position and performance: No. 4 at 9.139 seconds, 157.50 mph.
Race results: Beat Andrew Tran; lost to Lancelot Ho Lung.
Notable: Rain washed out all but a single round of qualifying and a local curfew postponed most of the competition until Monday.
Quotable: "(Because of the weather) we only had one qualifying run. So we just had to guess on Sunday and we got nipped. We lost by about a foot. It definitely was a drag race (but), unfortunately, we were on the wrong side of it. That one was a heartbreaker." -- Scott Revell, team manager.
Next events: GM Performance Sport Compact Nationals, July 25-26, The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas, Nev.; Texas Sport Compact Nationals, August, 17-19, Texas Motorplex, Dallas, Texas.
