NURBURGRING: PODIUM VANISHED IN THE FINALE
Race penalized by a twist in the finale for Matteo Bobbi at Nurburgring in the fourth round of the Le Mans Series.
With five laps to go, when the podium seemed to be already obtained, the failure of the right rear rim forced Andrea Piccini to an unscheduled pit stop that relegated the number 30 Lola B09/08 to the sixth place under the chequered flag.
Bobbi pushed constantly in both stints that saw him protagonist. A performance that, together with that one of his crew-mates allowed a good recovery started from the back of the grid due to an engine replacement announced on Thursday. The technical problem in the finale took away from drivers the satisfaction of the podium as well as from some points crucial for the title.
Matteo Bobbi:
"The three of us gave the maximum to recover the penalty on the grid due to the engine replacement, and we virtually managed to do it. The third place would not have allowed us to achieve the top of the classification but it would have at least given us a glimmer of hope for the last round at Silverstone. Unfortunately, things went differently but this is part of the game".
The final round of the Le Mans Series is scheduled for the 13 September on the British track of Silverstone.
