Australian Grand Prix - Final Qualifying November 11, 1995

Mika Salo and Ukyo Katayama slipped positions during the second qualifying session for the Australian Grand Prix. Like some other drivers, Mika's best time today (1 min 19.083 sec) was slower than in the Friday session, as was Ukyo's (1 min 19.114 sec). They will start the race from the seventh and eighth rows of the grid respectively.

Mika Salo: "I knew we would lose one position because of Jean Alesi but I am upset because we lost two positions with Gianni Morbidelli now also ahead of us. We lost grip and the hot weather always handicaps us."

Ukyo Katayama: "I found the car to be getting better and better in the hotter conditions, but the track was more slippery than yesterday and this morning..."

Mika Gascoyne, Deputy Technical Director: "We are usually better in the race than in qualifying. It is a very long and hard race with a lot of retirements, and with our reliability, we are looking forward to the possibility of ending the season with some more points."

Takaaki Kimura, Yamaha F1 Project Leader: "Obviously we would have like to have improved on yesterday's times, but with the fast-rising track temperature this proved to be a difficult task. Tomorrow we will be hoping for a two-car finish and the chance of some points."
