Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn wants the FIA to clarify the pit lane regulations after Rubens Barrichello and Williams' Ralf Schumacher came close to a collision in yesterday's San Marino Grand Prix. The pair of cars came in for their second stop together -- Schumacher was leading Barrichello in the race and Ferrari was presumably hoping to clear the Williams in the pit stop.
However, Schumacher managed to sneak out just in time to beat Barrichello but it was a very close call. Ferrari was fined in Bahrain for a similar incident, when the FIA ruled that Barrichello had been let go from his stop into the path of Jarno Trulli's Renault.
"We'll ask the FIA to judge it," said Brawn of the Imola contention. "We were told that no driver should have to take evasive action and Rubens clearly did and that spoiled his race. If he had got in front of Ralf at that stage, we might have been in a different situation We need to know if the pit lane is a free-for-all or not, and I think that needs to be clarified."
Barrichello was not terribly happy with Schumacher for other reasons as well: "Ralf Schumacher especially blocked me several times, at the start for example when he made a move that saw me go off the track," grumbled the Brazilian. The second Williams of Juan Pablo Montoya also had a close shave in the pits with Mark Webber's Jaguar in the first round of stops at Imola.
