For immediate release: 7 July 1995 Preview British Grand Prix Home Grand Prix for Nokia Tyrrell Yamaha

The Nokia Tyrrell Yamaha team tested for two days (Thursday and Friday) at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit in preparation for the team s home Grand Prix of the season, the British Grand Prix on Sunday 16th of July. The team tested at the Northamptonshire circuit with three Tyrrell-Yamaha 023 cars and regular drivers Mika Salo and Ukyo Katayama. Mika set a best lap time of 1 min 31,2 sec and Ukyo s fastest lap was 1 min 31,6 sec.

Harvey Postlethwaite, Managing Director - Engineering commented: "The British Grand Prix marks the end of the first half of the season and we are looking forward to making a strong start to the second half."

"During these two days at Silverstone, we improved the performance of the rear of the car and it should make the 023 more competitive, easier to work with and to set-up for the drivers."

Harvey added: "Ukyo tested a Tyrrell prototype fly-by-wire throttle system and we had encouraging results. It is still a prototype but we should race with it before the end of the year. We also used several new sensing techniques pioneered by our electronics partner, Pi Research. We will have some small aerodynamic improvements on the car for the Silverstone race."

Mika Salo said: "For the first time this season, I will race on a circuit I know. It s the team s home Grand Prix so it makes this race special. The last couple of races were difficult but we had a good test at Silverstone these last two days and are making progress. I am looking forward to a good weekend."

Ukyo Katayama added: "The 1995 season has been frustrating so far. The team works very hard, I train very hard and we know results will come. After the disappointments of the French Grand Prix where I was pushed out of the track at the first corner, I am hoping for a much better weekend at Silverstone which is one of my favourite circuits."

Mike Gascoyne, Deputy Technical Director comments: "Silverstone is one of the best tracks of the season, with a good combination of medium to high speed corners, difficult slow speed sections and a good consistent surface. Like most circuits now we tend to run a lot of wing but you must ensure a good balance between downforce and straight line speed due to the relative high speed nature of the track compared to other circuits in Formula 1 today."

The British Grand Prix will be held on the 5.057 kms / 3.142 miles Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire. The 61 lap, 308.477 kms / 191.718 miles race will start at 14.00 hours local time on Sunday 16th of July and is expected to last around 1 hour 30 minutes.
