Button predicts first stops after four or five laps

Jenson Button predicts Formula 1 drivers will be pitting after just four laps in the Mexican Grand Prix given the degradation the supersoft tyres are suffering from.

Most drivers complained about the lack of grip around the Mexican circuit, which was very dirty at the start of the weekend.

Button conceded the situation was very difficult, and admitted none of the three compounds brought by Pirelli is working well.

"There's a lot [of graining] on the supersoft," said Button. "The soft I don't really know. But at the start of the race, four or five laps on the supersoft and I think that's it, and then we are gonna be pitting.

"It's the same for everyone. We are just working with the balance. I don't think it's ever going to feel good here with such low grip, but we are still working towards something that's a bit better. The long runs are tricky."

The McLaren driver suggested the medium compound is set to be the main tyre for the race, even though it is producing very low grip.

"It's the tyre that lasts the longest," he said. "We haven't seen graining on that tyre yet. It's a... I don't want to say it's a good tyre. It's working in a better way than the other two.

"It's less bad. I think that's probably the best way to say, but it's such low grip with that tyre, but it doesn't have so much graining. The supersoft, you do one lap and it's graining already.

"It's tough, but it will add a bit of excitement to the start of the race."
