Shell Technical Briefing Canada - Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

Fuel

* Ferrari will use a new, optimised blend of Shell Formula One fuel in Canada

* As the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and Indianapolis are both high speed circuits that require good fuel economy Shell ULG58 / L4 has been optimised for the next two races

* The correct fuel strategy in Canada is vital to race success, perhaps more so here than at any other race

* With such high average speeds, excess time spent stationary in a pit stop can be penal

* Equally, with such a fast track, fuel consumption is slightly higher than usual

* In Germany last week, both Ferrari cars ran different pit stop strategies. Schumacher pitted earlier than most runners (Lap 8) and Barrichello ran until Lap 14. Both cars were running with the same blend of fuel underlining that the Shell fuel is not solely developed for a 'long stint' strategy and can deliver fuel economy as well as power

Lubricant

* Despite the potentially high ambient temperatures, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve offers good cooling potential for the cars and engines

* With high speeds, airflow through the radiators is good and as cars run with low wing, running close behind a competitor may not carry the high engine temperature penalty is does at a track such as the Hungaroring

* Ferrari will continue to use Shell Helix F1SL785 lubricant in the engine; Shell Spirax F1L5361 in the gearbox
