After winning the Monaco Grand Prix and coming second in Canada, David Coulthard said he would like to aim for second in the championship again this year. However, although the Scot believes McLaren's reliability is a key factor in the fight, he is realistic about the results.

"I like being in there with the battle for the championship, that's what motivates me," Coulthard said, who despite not finishing the first two races has been in the points every time since. "If you are in the battle for the championship, the chances are you have got a winning car on a regular basis and that's ultimately what you want."

"It would be a major achievement for the team if we could get second in the championship. Despite not having the performance we have got reliability. I have finished every race since the third one which is a pleasant surprise and I am only one point behind Ralf (Schumacher) and Juan Pablo (Montoya)."

On his chances of finishing second in the championship behind Michael Schumacher, who is widely believed to have the title sewn up already, Coulthard said it was unlikely: "It is something we can go for, but realistically we all know it is unlikely to happen."

"I have more than doubled my points for the year in the last two races but that's the way racing goes. We are going to pop in there occasionally if the guys at the front have problems. Things look a bit marginal in reliability for Williams but Ferrari look as strong as ever. I don't like being the underdog, I like to be at the front, it's easier at the front."
