Early days for cautious Webber

This time next week, Mark Webber and Antonio Pizzonia will have completed their first official test runs as Jaguar Racing drivers in Barcelona. Until then, it's all about getting to know the team and attending press conferences and seat fittings.

"I've done a lot of work here at the factory, meeting all the new people that I will be working with, getting comfortable in the car ready for the test," said Webber via satellite for the annual Australian GP launch event. "We start on November 26, testing every week for three weeks, and then we have another little break before we resume in mid-January."

Although it is only the first test session since the end of the 2002 season, people inevitably start to draw conclusions about what is going to happen when the lights go out in Melbourne. But, as Mark is quick to point out, it is still early days and there is much work to do before an accurate picture can be drawn in March.

"I think you will see what happens in November and December is very early days for all the teams getting to grips with their interim cars, the new gearbox packages -- everybody is really laying the foundations for their fresh material that will roll through mid January, early February.

"You will get a good comparison come mid-February in terms of the pace of all the teams. Again, the testing is a little bit of a curved ball in terms of what people get up to but you will really see the results come Friday and Saturday, with the new rules and regulations at Melbourne."
