Ferrari not expecting "miracles" from engine update - Raikkonen

Ferrari is to introduce changes to both the turbo and compressor for the Montreal weekend.

It is understood the improvements to the turbo have included some tweaks needed to cure reliability issues that Raikkonen suffered in Australia, so have been implemented without the need to spend any tokens.

However, the tweaks to the compressor are for pure performance reasons so have required Ferrari to spend two tokens.

With the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve being a power sensitive circuit, Ferrari is hopeful that the tweaks will help it further close the gap to Mercedes, but Raikkonen is not holding out for a dramatic change in the competitive order.

"This is a step forward, but how much time will tell," he said. "It is a new part and we never put new parts on the car if we didn't think they improved things.

"But what kind of step? I don't expect miracles. It is the right direction – it is something we have been waiting to have.

"It is like any other new parts we bring. It is not suddenly something magic. It is normal working progress for us as a team and it is going in the right direction all the time."

Results will come

Although Ferrari has so far failed to deliver on its early target of race victories, Raikkonen has faith that better results should be around the corner.

"We are stronger in the car in areas compared to last year, but the results don't show that exactly," he said.

"It hasn't been the easiest start for us as a team – but as long as we do stuff and keep working it will pay off.

"It has not been what we are looking for exactly, but the package is improved and we are working on it all the time.

"We are working on weaknesses, and you always look for better results and wins. So far it has been a tricky start to the year but we are more or less there."
