It was reported recently that Williams had objected to a rear wing design proposed by BAR but the Grove based squad refutes that it made a complaint. BAR's design would have given the rear wing a downforce advantage not unlike a third element and as the rules now restrict it to only two elements, the FIA decided the idea was not strictly legal.
According to media reports, Williams didn't want BAR having an advantage and lodged a complaint, but the team claims it only contacted the FIA with a question in regard to a similar wing design of its own. The FIA will now contact teams in regard to the rules.
"We can confirm that a clarification will be issued to the teams regarding wing design in the near future," said a spokesperson for the sport's governing body.
BAR is testing at Paul Ricard in France this week and Jenson Button topped the times yesterday. Button was working on aerodynamics and tried out a new front wing design and also a 'Ferrari-esque' centre wing behind the airbox above the driver's head.
"You have to keep finding performance and introduce it as quickly as possible," said BAR technical director Geoff Willis. "We've got other improvements coming for the next race at Imola."
