MOBIL 1 FRENCH GRAND PRIX - QUALIFYING Chassis Numbers: David Coulthard: MP4-13 / 03 Mika Hakkinen: MP4-13 / 06 T. Car: MP4-13 / 04 The West McLaren Mercedes team achieved their eighth Pole Position from eight races today when Mika posted a fastest lap of 1:14.929. This is Mikas fifth pole position this season with a lap time just four tenths off last years pole. David was third fastest with a 1:15.333 with Michael Schumacher splitting the West McLaren Mercedes duo. DAVID COULTHARD 'I was hoping that I would be challenging for pole position, but in truth I was never really in contention. I had a problem with a couple of corners which were key to my quick lap but none the less, third is a reasonable starting position and one from which I think it is still possible to win the race.' MIKA HAKKINEN 'I am very happy with my pole position especially as I think the track is quite difficult to drive. You cannot feel what is happening to the car because the surface is so smooth and that it makes setting the car up correctly extremely difficult. All this makes todays pole even more pleasing.' RON DENNIS 'The nature of the Magny Cours circuit, with one high speed corner, does not allow our drivers to fully explore the benefits of the car and the outcome of the race will now be determined by a correct and well executed race strategy.' NORBERT HAUG 'Eight poles in a row is a great achievement and I am happy for the whole team everybody has put in a great deal of effort during this first half of the season. However, the race is a different story. I am expecting a great event for the spectators tomorrow.'
