ITALIAN GRAND PRIX Monza, Italy, 13th September 1998 Circuit Length 5.79/3.60 Total 305.772 Kms

The Benson and Hedges Jordan Mugen-Honda ran for the first time today with a new aerodynamic package, tested in the Jordan wind tunnel last week. This package will be run all weekend, and a new specification Mugen-Honda engine will be used in qualifying and the race.

DAMON HILL Chassis 03 Best time 1.26.838 Best position 8th "The rain curtailed the work we wanted to do today, but we have done so much testing here that this is not too crucial. The rain was heavier this afternoon than in testing last week and it is predicted to be even worse tomorrow, which will obviously have an impact on tyre choice. I think we can still find some more time and I hope to qualify in the top six."

RALF SCHUMACHER Chassis 04 Best time 1.27.079 Best position 11th "The car ran especially well in the wet, as it did in Spa and in testing here last week, so it would be good for us if it rained tomorrow. It is difficult to make any comments about the new bodywork as this is the first time we have run it on the circuit. It certainly showed improvements in the wind tunnel and we will use it this weekend."

The spare car, chassis 05, is set up for Damon Hill for the qualifying session.
