Jordan thanks team for its efforts

Eddie Jordan addressed the staff at the team's Silverstone headquarters this morning, advising them that Takuma Sato has been released from hospital after yesterday's serious accident, and thanking everyone for their efforts producing the team's first points of the 2002 season.

Joined by Director Design and Development Henri Durand and Director of Race and Test Engineering Gary Anderson, Eddie Jordan described Sato's miraculous escape from his Austrian Grand Prix accident and pointed out that Fisichella's 5th place finish came as a direct result of recent work to tackle reliability issues and produce the new front wing developments which were raced in Zeltweg for the first time.

"Takuma's accident was horrific, really a miracle," said Jordan, later joking that, "...having seen the chassis I don't think I'll be asking Gary to see if we can turn it back into a runner."

Concerning performance he said: "Two points is two points and we have a lot of work to do to get where we want to be, but this is a start and a clear move in the right direction. After the start to the season we have had, to finish ahead of McLaren and Renault is satisfying, but we will have to redouble our efforts and keep pushing."

"We have all seen in certain media in recent weeks that they think our restructuring was only about saving money, when in fact a key reason was to create a tighter, meaner team with the flexibility to move quickly and get results. Yesterday's result is the first sign of that and we must try and build on that."
