Montoya surprised by Button move

Current Williams driver Juan Pablo Montoya is surprised that Jenson Button wants to join the team next year. Montoya himself is heading off to McLaren for 2005 and Button is aiming to join Mark Webber at Williams. The wrangling between Williams, Button and BAR is yet to be resolved but Montoya can't understand Button's decision.

"Maybe there's something in BAR he doesn't like or something," he told reporters at the Hungaroring. "The whole team was built around him. I think it's crazy, but it's his choice. Probably Williams can turn it around, but they got it completely wrong this year."

It's true that Williams has not been at its best this season, while BAR has surprised many with its competitive performances. The team is currently third in the constructors' standings, with Williams in fourth. Button claims Williams will give him the best chance of winning the title next year but Montoya is not so sure.

"BAR's results were getting better," said the Colombian. "In the last race, he (Button) had a 10-place penalty and finished second. After that, how your mind goes to go somewhere else I don't know. Williams have to come a long way."

Button himself was present in Thursday's press conference at the Hungaroring but was not willing to say much when faced with a barrage of questions in regard to his situation. "I think I have made myself pretty clear in the press already," he remarked. "I don't think there is any use going into it again, well, I am not willing to anyway."

Given the recent events, it would be no surprise if the atmosphere between BAR and Button was a little tense, but Jenson believes the team will work together this weekend without any problems. "There is a good atmosphere in the garage," he said.

"We are here to do a job, we are here to race, and we are here to hopefully get our best result this year and the best result personally and the best result for the team, so we are upbeat about the weekend, definitely."
