Frenchman Romain Dumas is to test for Renault in December as the team carries out evaluations for a new test driver. Dumas recently won the Euro F3000 Vice-Championship and is delighted that Renault have given him the chance, which he looks on as a privilege.
"If the possibility of reaching the highest level of racing are rare today, testing opportunities are equally hard to come by, and therefore this chance should be seen as a real privilege, and a reward for all the work I have done since I started karting," he said. "I cannot say just how delighted I am that Renault has chosen me to take part in these tests; it really means a lot to me."
Dumas will visit Renault at Enstone in the UK for a seat fitting and to meet team members and the test is at due to take place on the 3rd and 4th of December in Barcelona. The Frenchman had been sounding out F1 possibilities this season and Renault was the first to offer him a test.
"I have had contacts with various teams throughout the season, but the Renault F1 Team was the first to suggest that I test for them," Dumas said. "This strong team is the flag-bearer for one of the world's largest manufacturers, and it is gradually rising towards the top in Formula One."
"My aims during this test will be very simple: to prove that I can help them to reach their goals. Since I started my racing career, I have worked hard to achieve my own goals. More than anywhere else, I believe that Formula One requires work to win, and I would be very proud to be able to help this manufacturer in its testing program."
