Sam Michael reviews Europe

WilliamsF1's Technical Director, Sam Michael, reflects on the European Grand Prix, highlighting all its incidents from the BMW WilliamsF1 Team's point of view.

"Unfortunately, the European Grand Prix was another disappointing race for the team. We lost one car right at the start when Ralf collided with Cristiano da Matta going into the first corner."

"Juan Pablo also suffered from the incident and was forced to pit early with a damaged front wing. His stop for a new nose cost approximately 35 seconds so Juan exited the pits at the back of the pack and was therefore left to fight his way through the field for the rest of the race."

"Our goal for the rest of the Grand Prix was to get into the points, which we managed to achieve with some great overtaking manoeuvres from Juan Pablo, combined with some good strategy decisions. The car was looking considerably more competitive than in previous races so we should have come away with a much better result had both our cars come through the first corner without incident."

"We are now working towards the next double-header: Canada and then Indianapolis. We are testing a few new parts this week at Silverstone, which we will be bringing with us to Montreal, which we hope will improve our performance and help us to return to the front of the grid."
