Schumacher ready for Chinese challenge

Like many of the F1 drivers, Michael Schumacher is looking forward to his first visit to China this coming weekend and is impatient to try out the Shanghai circuit. Bahrain was the first new track on the calendar this year, back in April, and the Chinese round of the championship is as eagerly anticipated.

Shanghai is reported to be the most modern facility F1 has seen. "I am very excited at racing on the track and seeing it with my own eyes," said Schumacher. "I am also looking forward to this new experience. I have never been to China but I am sure it will be very interesting.

"I think that it is right for Formula 1 to be there as it is a 'world' championship. It will be great getting to know the country and its people, apart from racing."

Only a couple of F1 drivers have experienced Shanghai first hand but Ferrari's champion is not concerned that others might have an advantage. Only when the first Friday practice session gets under way will anyone really know what the track is like.

"For the others there have only been exhibition laps," Schumacher commented. "It will only really be able to evaluate the track this weekend so for everybody it will be the first time. Only after having run the first few laps on Friday will we discover what it is really like. I am convinced that we will have a good time in Shanghai."

Ferrari conducted a four day test at Jerez and Mugello last week with Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello and test drivers Luca Badoer and Andrea Bertolini all in action. The Fiorano track was also used by Badoer to shakedown the two racecars to be used in China this weekend.
