Teams wrap up testing 2003-06-05

It was the last day of the week's testing for most teams, with Monza and Silverstone the venues. Ferrari test driver Felipe Massa set the best time at Monza, a 1:22.837, doing distance running in the F2003-GA. Luca Badoer will continue for the Scuderia at Fiorano tomorrow.

BAR had testers Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson on duty, second and fifth fastest respectively, while Pedro de la Rosa was the sole McLaren in attendance, third. Marc Gené set the fourth time for Williams while Ralf Schumacher topped the times at Silverstone, 1:19.790, to close the team's three-day test.

"We have been testing at two different circuits this week. In Monza, the focus was on preparation work for Montreal, set-up work for the Italian Grand Prix and general tyre development," said BMW motorsport director MaioTheissen.

"In Italy we were also also working on the engine's set- up and development. During these tests we have been able to learn plenty from two defects which will assist with future development of the engine. The Silverstone test was mainly concerned with chassis development and set-up work for the British Grand Prix. In summary we have had two intensive and positive tests."

Nick Heidfeld ended Sauber's testing week with sixth quickest. The team's programme focused on aerodynamic tests for Montreal and Monza and Bridgestone tyre tests for France. Olivier Panis rounded off the Monza times, wrapping up Toyota's week testing a new engine.

The Renault duo of Jarno Trulli and Fernando Alonso were second and third fastest behind Ralf at Silverstone. The team opted out of yesterday's session due to the weather and today concentrated mainly on Michelin tyres. Alonso also worked on set-up and Trulli on aerodynamics for their single day session.

Jordan also had two cars on track, Giancarlo Fisichella and Ralph Firman, fourth and fifth respectively, concluding the team's two-day session. The pair worked on Cosworth engine development, gearbox, aerodynamics, control systems and Bridgestone tyres. Tester Ricardo Zonta finished Toyota's Silverstone with tyre evaluation and preparation for the British Grand Prix.
