2010 Formula Renault NEC runner-up to join Portimão field
17-year-old Mikkel Mac will take part in Formula Two's official winter test at Portimão this December as part of his prize for finishing runner-up in the 2010 Formula Renault 2.0 NEC Championship.
Mac took three race wins - more than any other driver - and six podiums during his campaign in the NEC series, and will receive a fully funded test on Friday 3 December as his prize.
Despite only graduating into single seaters in 2009 following title success in Denmark's KF2 Karting Championship, Mikkel can already boast a proud career which includes two wins and six podiums from eight races in Formula Ford Denmark and a campaign in Formula BMW Europe.
F2 represents the highest level yet for the Dane however, and he admits he is eagerly anticipating the chance to pilot the Williams-designed JPH1B F2 car.
"I just can't wait to get behind the wheel," Mac enthused. "I have followed the series from the start, and the car looks very fast. I am sure it will be a blast to try the car for a whole day at Portimão, and a big thank you goes out to both the NEC Cup and the Formula Two organisers in helping make my dreams come true.
"I think that (F2) is a good way to promote young drivers like myself, and I am very proud to be involved in the test. After my second place in the Formula Renault Northern European Cup in 2010, this is a fantastic prize to celebrate!"
Formula Two held a similar test programme in the winter of 2009, which met with great acclaim from all who participated. In total 25 drivers experienced the Williams JPH1 F2 car, with 12 progressing onto the 2010 F2 grid.
