Racing Engineering leading team championship!
The fourth round of the Telofonica World Series by Nissan took place this weekend at the high-speed circuit of Monza bringing three podiums for Racing Engineering. In the first race Franck Montagny and Justin Wilson finished second and third respectively. Franck Montagny is the winner of the second race and Justin Wilson finished fourth. Both drivers benefited from a test held in Jerez right after the race in Albacete as the scheduled test before the Albacete race on Thursday had been cancelled.
1st race:
Under sunny and dry conditions the first race had Franck Montagny
starting in third position and Justin Wilson in tenth position. Both
Franck and Justin had very good starts. Franck overtook Karthikeyan right
at the start and drove a constant race finishing in second position.
Justin also had a very good start and gained three positions in the first
lap. In the 5th lap Justin overtook Filiberti and very quickly closed the
gap to Burgeño, who he overtook in lap 11. Justin finished the first race
in 3rd position.
2nd race:
The second race was also held under sunny and dry conditions. Franck
Montagny started in pole position and Justin Wilson in fourth position.
Soon after the start, in the first lap, Justin was able to climb to third
position. In lap 2 an accident caused the safety car to come out. Soon
after the safety car withdrew Justin was able to climb to second place.
Meanwhile, all through the race, Franck successfully kept his lead. After
their respective tire changes and very good pit stops, Franck continued
in the lead and Justin battled in fourth position. The race thus ended
with Franck Montagny with a glorious win and Justin Wilson fourth.
After the races Franck Montagny said,"I am happy about the weekend and I thank Racing Engineering and the mechanics a lot for the good work and good pit stop. We had some problems in Albacete, but the testing in Jerez helped a lot for the race in Monza. Justin and I were having long briefings with our engineers and together we were able to advance a lot. We are still not the fastest on the track so we still have some work to do but I am very happy with this weekend."
Justin Wilson claimed"The first race was very good. I started from 10th position and finished 3rd. This is also good for the team as we could score quite a lot of points. Everything went well this weekend. It was good racing. There still are some things we have to work on, but the mechanics are very happy and work very hard. It's a good feeling. I am happy, but it could still be better."
