Racing Engineering Jarama tow-day test report

Racing Engineering's drivers impressive again!

On the 24th and 25th of April all teams participating in the World Series by Nissan met at the Circuito de Jarama, the legendary course near Madrid, for the second collective tests. One more time Racing Engineering's drivers proved to be the best choices for this challenging new series. Franck Montagny, the current Open Telefónica Champion, again dominated the first day of testing. Justin Wilson, reigning F3000 Champion, had to cope with some technical problems, but nevertheless showed a very satisfying performance.

Wednesday, 24/4/02:

Racing Engineering decided to primarily use these two test days to work on different setups for the car. Franck Montagny went out with used tires and was very satisfied with the work of his mechanics and engineers. Franck did the amazing performance of driving 124 laps with one set of tires! In the afternoon Franck Montagny changed to a new set of slicks and in his 16th lap on the track marked the best time of the day, 1,23.309.

Justin Wilson had to fight with clutch problems in the first training session. Therefore he could only finish 13 entire laps. Still he was able to bring down his lap times by 14 seconds!

Thursday, 25/4/02:

The test day started without any problems. Both Franck and Justin were very pleased with the work of their team and with their cars. Although both of them went out with used tires, they marked fantastic lap times. After a routine check on the engine Justin complained about a lack of power from the engine and therefore could not catch up with the times before his engine check.

Justin finished the second test day in 3rd position, Franck in 4th position.

After the collective test Justin Wilson claimed, that he was very content with the team, happy with the car and looking forward to the upcoming season. He went on to say, "Sadly today after the engineers of AER (Advanced Engine Research) plugged in their computer, I suffered from a lack of power from the engine, due to changes in the ECU."
