Double pole for Kochem
Qualifying 1.
The 23 drivers in the line-up this weekend for round 8 of the FR 2000
championship took their time in coming out onto the track, but when they did
they certainly wound up the session with a tremendous show. And just like
earlier in free practise, it was Kochem (Jenzer Motorsport) who dominated. A
great performance from the young German, who is still in with a shot of the title
but above all a championship podium finish, which piles the pressure on
championship-chaser Pagenaud. It was Germany's day all round, with its drivers
and teams all at the head of the pack. The session ended with Kochem on pole,
ahead of Speed (Motopark Oschersleben) and Holland's Meijer (Ar Motorpsort).
Then came Fleming (Jenzer Motorpsort), with Pagenaud finishing strong in fifth.
All the ingredients of a tough battle out on the track.
Qualifying 2.
It was hide-and-seek under the Italian sun this afternoon, with the championship
leaders staying well hidden in their garages until the last five minutes. Speed
rolled out and straight away put in the fastest time, only for Fleming to go one
better and take pole. Then in the dying seconds Kochem did the double, putting
in the fastest lap and taking four essential points before the racing even gets
underway. At the end of the session it was Kochem ahead of Speed and
Fleming. Pagenaud, meanwhile, finished back in seventh.
