With Mike Briggs confirmed as the 1995 South African Super Touring Champion the attention turns to the battle for second place in the series between Deon Joubert (BMW Envirocar) and Grant McCleery (Opel Vectra) when they meet at Kyalami on Saturday for rounds 19 and 20 of the AA Fleetcare series.
It will also be a big day for Shaun Watson-Smith who will have his first ever outing in a touring car driving Brigg's car while the champion continues his foray into BTCC racing at Snetterton on the same weekend.
Watson-Smith drives the Opel factory team Group N car in the Stannic series.
Another driver looking for a good result at Kyalami is Rothmans Audi pilot Terry Moss. Using a sequential gearbox for the first time at the recent East London rounds of the series he qualified third on the grid but was involved in incidents in both heats, never getting the chance to test the new setup on the Audi quattro in race conditions.
On the points table Briggs has an unbeatable 109 followed by Joubert on 72 with McCleery on 70. Shaun van der Linde (BMW Envirocar) is in fourth place with 40 points with Terry Moss on 28.
