Little Valley Speedway 2002 Schedule Set

Little Valley, NYThe 2002 racing schedule for Little Valley Speedway is complete. The eight-event schedule for the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds facility includes Super Stocks and Street Stocks on each program. Super Late Models, Big Block DIRT Modifieds, 358 DIRT Modifieds, DIRT Pro Stocks, ESS 360 Super Sprints, and School Buses will be added to the agenda on selected dates. The schedule is detailed below and is also available on the Speedway's website www.littlevalleyspeedway.com.

Super Late ModelsThe low slung, full fendered, 2200-pound Super Late Models will make six visits to LVS in 2002. Two of those visits will be for the Tri State Championship Series. In December Ron Nielson of Raceway 7 in Conneaut, Ohio, Dennis Shutt of McKean County Raceway in Smethport, Pennsylvania, and Gary Montgomery of Little Valley Speedway in Little Valley, New York, formed an alliance to promote late model racing in the Tri State area. The first output of that alliance is the Tri State Championship Series. The series is comprised of two three-day weekend extravaganzas, which will award over $75,000 to competitors. Each Speedway will host two shows highlighted by 33 lap $3333 to win late model mains. Raceway 7 events are Friday, May 24, and Friday, July 12. McKean County's events are Saturday, May 25, and Saturday, July 13.

Little Valley Speedway will race on Sunday nights of those weekends- May 26 and July 14. LVS's opening night for the 2002 season will be May 26 for Round One of the Tri State Championship Series. Round Two of the Tri State Championship Series [July 12,13 &14] will feature the lightening quick late models in topless configuration.

Other Super Late Model dates for LVS in 2002 are Wednesday July 3, Saturday, August 24, Sunday, September 1, and Saturday, September 7.

Dick Barton of Ashville, NY winner of the LVS Super Late Model points championship in 2001 plans to earn a repeat championship for the upcoming season.

Big Block DIRT ModifiedsThe Big Block DIRT Modified Tour made its first ever appearance at LVS in 2001, and the racing was outstanding. Accordingly, the Tour has been booked for a return engagement on Saturday, September 21, 2002. The Big Block Modifieds will share headline billing with the ESS 360 Super Sprints in their return to the Little Valley half mile.

Rex King of Bristol, OH won the 2001 Big Block race in one of the closest finishes ever seen at the track, coming from the rear of the field to do it, and will attempt to repeat in 2002.

358 DIRT ModifiedsThe always popular 358 DIRT Modifieds will make their fourth annual trip to the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 7, for a giant double header sharing top billing with the Super Late Models. Twin 25 lap mains paying $2500 to win should produce two top quality fields on this open date.

Pete Bicknell of St. Catharines, Ontario won the 358 Modified race last year. His incentive to repeat in 2002 is $2500 for 25 laps!

DIRT Pro StocksThe beautiful Winston Cup look-alikes from DIRT Motorsports, the Pro Stocks, will make their first ever trip to LVS for an ARANY Championship Series event on Wednesday, July 3. The DIRT Pro Stocks return on Sunday, September 1, as part of the Labor Day Full Fender Special [four full fendered divisions on one night]. Each of the DIRT Pro Stock events will pay a $5000 purse, which awards the winner $1000.

Jason Boyle won the 2001 Mr. DIRT title for Pro Stocks in 2001. He will move to the 358 Modifieds in 2002. Jipp Ortiz, the 2000 Mr. DIRT Pro Stock champion and two-time Pro Stock winner on the Syracuse Mile will be heavily favored to win on the fast LVS. "I am delighted that LVS has offered us [the DIRT Pro Stocks] an opportunity to race for $1000 to win right in New York State", says the popular second- generation race car driver.

Empire Super SprintsThe 360 Super Sprints of the ESS Club have been twelve time visitors to LVS since the Speedway was re-opened in 1997. Scott Holcomb of Granby, Connecticut, won the first ESS race at LVS on July 4, 1997, and the most recent ESS race on September 22, 2001. Holcomb will attempt to win both of the 2002 LVS events [Friday, June 14 and Saturday, September 21].

School Buses "We run the buses last and everybody stays", says John Charlesworth, President of the Cattaraugus County Agricultural Society which owns and operates the Speedway. Given that endorsement Gary Montgomery, Promoter / Race Director of Little Valley Speedway has scheduled the buses for seven shows in 2002.

Super Stocks and Street StockAt most speedways Super Stocks and Street Stocks are considered support classes. At LVS these classes share the lead, with billing at each of the eight dates on the LVS 2002 calendar. The standard LVS purse for these divisions is the best of any track in the Northeast, but it will be even better on Friday, June 14, and Saturday, August 24, when the Supers race for $1000 to win and the Streets for $500 to win. As an added incentive, the August 24 winners will earn guaranteed starting positions in Ransomville Speedway's September 14th "King of the Hill" extravaganza.
