Joel Miller captures a podium position in Virginia
Hesperia, CA (April 28, 2009) -- Joel Miller finished 3rd in round 2 of the Star Mazda Championship this past weekend at Virginia International Raceway. He qualified 7th due to wrong strategy but took the lead quickly around the outside on the first restart due to a caution period. Miller ended up leading the most laps of the race which was filled with many caution periods giving extremely close racing on all the restarts. During the last sprint to the checkered flag the two drivers behind were able to get a run and utilize the large slip stream at VIR to pass Miller. In the end he finished a solid 3rd and advanced up the points standings to 3rd in the championship, only 5 points behind the leader.
"I was able to pull off a huge move around the outside on the first restart in which I went from seventh to first" commented Miller afterwards. "I got the track position I needed and held that through most of the race which had a lot of restarts, but with the draft here at VIR the other cars were able to drive right past."
"I had a top 3 car for sure so I made sure I got as much out of the car as possible to come home with points for the championship. I have to thank all my supporters such as Faderhigher Productions, eSoles, Mocket Company, and Classic Stone Distributors for the support they are giving and I am happy to give them a podium this weekend," says Miller.
The next round of the Star Mazda Championship will take place in 2 weeks at Miller Motorsports Park which is just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah.
