IPS: Mathew Halliday released from hospital

Halliday released from hospital after surgery.

INDIANAPOLIS, Monday, July 15, 2002 -- Indy Racing Infiniti Pro Series driver Matthew Halliday was released from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on July 14 after undergoing surgery on his left wrist, said Dr. Henry Bock, director of medical services for the Indy Racing League.

Halliday, 23, broke his left wrist in a crash during the inaugural Infiniti Pro Series race July 7 at Kansas Speedway. Dr. Kevin Scheid performed the surgery.

Halliday was transferred July 13 to Methodist Hospital from Kansas University Medical Center where he had been since July 7. While in Kansas, Halliday was treated for a concussion, a broken left wrist and a fractured right ankle. He also was diagnosed with bruised lungs and spent July 10-11 in the Intensive Care Unit.

The accident occurred in Turn 2 on Lap 3 of the event. Halliday, a resident of Indianapolis and native of Auckland, New Zealand, made hard contact with the outside wall in his No. 37 Bowes Seal Fast/Hoosier Wholesale Automotive Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone machine.
