Morad takes dominant win in Formula Junior at Barrie Grand Prix
BARRIE, ONTARIO - Markham's Daniel Morad kept his undefeated status in the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship Presented by Toronto Star Wheels alive by winning the Formula Junior class at the Barrie Grand Prix this weekend. With the win, Morad is three for three in Formula Junior in the series.
"It was good to win here," Morad said. "This is always a big weekend, and our MapleLeaf Mortgages Birel was just awesome today."
Morad took the pole by .311 of a second, and then converted that to a 1.970 second win in the pre-final. "I had to save tires in the pre-final so I had a lot of rubber left for the final." In the final, Morad cruised to a 5.779 second victory - he also set the fastest race lap by being the only driver to record a lap in the 52 second bracket.
On Sunday, Canada Junior Heavy was on the agenda for Morad. It was the first time this year that he has raced a four-stroke kart. Morad got a reminder of just how competitive Canada Junior Heavy is, when he qualified at a 53.848, which was just .432 of a second off the pole - he was sixth. In the pre-final he moved up to fifth, and in the final, Morad finished fourth, just off the podium. "It was good to run a four-stroke again, and we were good, but to win here, you have to get back into the swing of four stroke racing."
