Gresini Racing MotoGP TT Assen Qualifying Report

TT Circuit Assen

Super, Super, Super Sic

Marco Simoncelli once again showed why they call him 'Super' at Assen today, following up his fastest lap in the wet yesterday will pole position in the dry today, his second in MotoGP. Now the only thing remaining his for him to finally shake off the hoodoo of the last five Grands Prix. The Italian has a perfect setting for any conditions so whatever the weather throws at him tomorrow the Team San Carlo Honda Gresini rider will be ready. Despite his excellent race prospects “Super Sic” is refusing to make predictions, although he is clearly determined to pay another visit to parc fermé tomorrow.

I have been fast in the wet and the dry...

Marco Simoncelli

Marco Simoncelli (1st 1’ 34” 718) “Obviously I am really happy but right now I just want everything to go to plan on race day and finally pick up the result I feel myself and the team deserve. The bike is good although obviously not quite 100% because we have not had much time to set it up and there is not a lot of grip in a lot of the corners. I have been fast in the wet and the dry and my pace is good but now it is important to do well tomorrow – maybe the fact we're racing on a Saturday could be a good omen!”

Kousuke Akiyoshi (17th 1’ 39” 006 ) ”I am happy to be here at Assen and back in MotoGP. Obviously this track is not easy with the changeable weather conditions but I have tried to do my best and I will continue to do so tomorrow in the warm-up in the hope of having a decent race. I want to thank HRC and Team San Carlo Honda Gresini once again for the opportunity.”

Fausto Gresini “I am really pleased with this second pole position! Marco was great yesterday and today he set a really strong time. He has been the fastest throughout, showing great speed and determination in wet and dry conditions. I believe this is the time for him to turn his great form into a result. I have been saying for the past few races that we are proud to have such an exciting talent as Marco in our team. He is a true champion who never gives up and he remains determined in any situation. That is also a credit to the team, who combine to make a united force with him and HRC, who have always believed in us and in “Super Sic”. ”
