BUDWEISER 500, Dover, Del. -- This turned out to be a Rusty Wallace-Ernie Irvan affair, with Wallace coming out on top to score his third victory of the season. With 10 laps remaining in the 500-lap race on the one-mile Dover Downs International Speedway, Wallace, experiencing no problems, had built up a 1.25-second lead over fellow Ford driver Irvan before the race's final caution on lap 491. Wallace got the better of Irvan during the last four-lap shootout to win by 0.34-second. Ken Schrader finished third with Mark Martin fourth and Jeff Gordon fifth. Tire problems contributed to all but one of the dozen caution periods for 99 laps and got the better of several competitors, including Dale Earnhardt. Combined with Earnhardt's misfortunes, Irvan left Dover with a 163-point lead over Earnhardt.
