IRWIN FASTEST ON THIRD NIGHT AS TESTING CONCLUDES AT DAYTONA

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR Winston Cup Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year Candidate Kenny Irwin posted the fastest speed on the third and final night of NASCAR Winston Cup testing Wednesday at Daytona International Speedway in preparation for the inaugural nighttime running of the Pepsi 400 on July 4.

Irwin was clocked at 46.950 seconds, for an average speed of 191.693 mph in his No. 28 Texaco Havoline Ford Taurus. The drivers rounding out the top-five included Mark Martin (190.034 mph), Michael Waltrip (189.673 mph), Rusty Wallace (189.593) and Sterling Marlin (188.996 mph).

The first official nighttime activity of Pepsi 400 weekend is Bud Pole Award Qualifying under the lights on Thursday, July 2 at 8:15 p.m.

Race fans can witness Daytona's new lighting system and two nights of NASCAR Winston Cup practice and qualifying for the price of one, by purchasing a Collectible Pole Night Ticket on or before July 1.
